I believe in a slower, simpler approach to doing business. One rooted in intention, meaning & purpose, where you find that beautiful (yet often seemingly elusive) balance between deeply supporting your clients, honouring your creativity, and reclaiming your time, energy and heart.

Here is a little confidence ritual you can do as a photographer because although you might be a pro at making your clients feel seen and confident in front of the camera, being visible and rooting into your self-expression and self-belief in your own business can feel slightly daunting to even the most confident business owner. Am I right?

I created this little ritual to help you feel more confident and creative when expressing your personality through your marketing and brand touchpoints.

With the rise in popularity of the “personal brand” and the increased use of AI-generated content, I think your clients will want to connect with you on a deeper level.

By showing them more of you (and how that intersects with what your clients value), you can connect with those dream clients who” want you to do your thing” because they wholeheartedly trust you AND will help set you apart from other photographers in your niche.

If you need a confidence boost right now or want to find ways to bring a little bit of you into your brand touchpoints, this ritual is a great place to start.

Ok, feeling grounded, let’s get started.

Set the scene for your confidence ritual.

I encourage you to find a soft, quiet place to reflect. But before you do that, what makes you feel good about yourself? Visualisation is a powerful tool, so take a few moments to breathe and think about this strong, confident version of yourself.

What would you wear, how would you act, how would you carry yourself? Before you start this ritual, can you embody this version of yourself?

Is there an outfit you put on that immediately makes you stand a little taller and feel good about yourself?

Or maybe there is a song that, when it comes on, feels like it speaks to you, and you wanna shout the lyrics as loud as you can.

How do you feel afterward? A little more empowered?

Before you start your ritual, spend some time embodying that version of yourself. You can take a moment to connect to that vision, but if you have more time on your hands, why not put on that outfit for this ritual?

You could spend a few moments singing or dancing to that song or looking in the mirror and saying great things about yourself.

If that feels too hard, you could create a vision board on Pinterest about how you would confidently express yourself. Why not create a little persona or brand character you can embody (nobody says you have to show your whole self through your brand)?

Personally, I like having one side of me that shows up in my branding and keeping the other parts of myself for me and my family. The point is to do what feels good for you.

I know that might feel a little silly, but getting into the habit of celebrating, connecting with yourself, and feeling more confident will have ripple effects on your business.

Now that you feel more connected to your inner confidence, it’s time to find ways to inject a bit of you into your business.

Find a quiet spot to reflect. You can bring your journal or a piece of paper and a pen.

These questions would work well as a tarot spread, so please feel free to include some tarot cards (or an oracle deck) to enhance your reflections and intentions.

If this doesn’t feel aligned or you don’t have any tarot cards, you can use these as journal prompts instead.

When you are ready, find a cosy corner, light a candle and get ready to begin.

Hopefully, you already feel pretty embodied and a bit more confident after the first step, but take a few moments to connect with that feeling of being comfortable in your skin.

When you are ready, you can shuffle your cards, take a deep breath, and ask yourself these questions before choosing a card. If you aren’t using cards (that’s ok; take a deep breath in and connect to your inner knowing).

Here are the questions to reflect on:

  • How do I currently express my unique personality in my business? How can I amplify this to reflect better who I am and what I stand for?
  • Is my brand personality and marketing message aligned with my true essence? How can I refine my brand personality to let the things I am passionate about shine through and connect with my clients (and potential clients)?
  • Are there any areas in my business that need me to be bolder or courageous? What small actions can I take to step out of my comfort zone (even just a little) to embrace growth?
  • Are any limiting beliefs holding me back from achieving my business goals or desires? How could I experiment or embrace my inner confidence to get curious or question some of these beliefs?
  • What do I need to remind myself when I lose my confidence or need a reminder of my gift to share with others? Can you create a little reminder or some affirmations to boost my confidence?

Sit and feel the power and confidence illuminating from within.

Take a few moments to reflect on what came up during this ritual. You might find it helpful to create affirmations or even a little love letter to yourself that you can read when you need to access your inner confidence.

You could play the song you chose at the beginning of this ritual before you do something scary or outside of your comfort zone over the next few weeks.

You can also choose to dress a little more like the vision board you created or embody that confident version of yourself the next time you appear on stories or do something in your business that makes you feel a bit more visible.

The point is not to “fake it till you make it” but to embody how you would like to feel until your confidence grows.

Building confidence in your photography business is a continuous practice.

Whether it’s being a bit more visible on social media or feeling confident letting your true self shine through your branding and marketing, the more you express yourself, the easier it will become and the more confident you will feel.

You can infuse your brand with little bits of you in many ways so you can stand out within your industry and find those clients who fill you up with joy! You don’t have to be loud to be confident; in fact, there are so many ways you can infuse yourself into your business (even as a highly sensitive, quiet soul).

Deeply embedded inside you is something magical that you can offer the world; you can use this thread to create a special connection through your service and the types of folks you are drawn to work with.

Hopefully, by the end of this ritual, you will feel a bit more confident and inspired to let your personality shine — whether that’s through your marketing and creating a personal brand or taking the quieter approach and infusing every brand touch point with a little bit of you!
