Loom is a simple yet powerful screen recording app that can save you time and energy and enhance how you run your photography business!
But how the heck do you use it, and how exactly does it save you time?
Before we get into that, I want to share a little secret with you… I am laaazzyyy!!
Like if there is a quicker and easier way to do something, you bet I’m going to find it ☺️. This is why I have been a big fan of Loom for many, many years!
I could not be bothered to type out a loooooong email, which is why most of my client communication happens through Loom.
But you can get very strategic with how you use a tool like Loom – using it at key stages of your client journey to enhance your experience and save you so much time & energy. You can share important information in an engaging and personal way but you can also offer guidance and support without the need for back-and-forth emails!
And let’s face it – so many of us would rather listen than read these days.
Loom allows you to create videos that feel personal. The best part is that you can record a video once and use it over and over again! So many clients tell me that the Loom video I sent them gave them all the fuzzies, and you can do the same thing in your business!
One of the best ways to reclaim your energy in business is to include more asynchronous communication in your process. Plus, your clients can watch your super cute, personalised videos whenever it’s convenient for them, making the whole process more flexible, personalised and less stressful for everyone.
It’s a win-win!
I know you might be thinking, I don’t want to be on camera. Maybe you feel like you have to get all dressed up and put together, but let me tell you, my messy hair, top knot bun, and still wearing my PJ bottom videos get just as much love as the ones where I have gotten all dressed up. Plus, your face is a teeny tiny circle, just enough to feel personal and not big enough that you even need to put make-up on 😂😂😂
I promise you that Loom is a secret little gem for your photography business. It can help you streamline communication, improve your client experience, and, most importantly, save your energy for what matters most—your creativity and doing the things that light you up outside of your business!
Here are some of my fave ways you can use Loom in your photography business.
Using Loom to build trust by personalising your proposals
What better way to build connection with potential clients than to do a little walkthrough video when sending over a proposal or booking form? Yes, you could record a standard video, but you can amplify your message and connection by sending out a personalised video to each client.
It shouldn’t take more than a few minutes (which is faster than typing an email anyway)!
After your discovery call with your client, send them a follow-up email with your booking form, walking them through the package that would be the best fit for them and why. This is a great way to reflect on everything they mentioned on the call with you, reinforcing your understanding of their needs and showing how much love and care you put into your work. This will help build trust and confidence that you are the right photographer for them!
Don’t be afraid to do a little bit of gentle upselling here, too, showing the value of adding on an album or an additional service you offer, like an engagement session or video. It just sounds so much better when it comes from the heart!
Plus, you can walk them through the next steps, meaning there is less confusion.
Educating your clients with easy-to-follow tutorials
Okay, the possibilities are endless with this, from how to prepare for a shoot to a gallery walkthrough or showing your clients how to order an album or prints through pic-time!
You can gently guide your clients through every step of your process, making them feel supported and cared for! The best part is that you only have to record these videos once and then let them continue to work for you in the background.
This leads to more OMG referrals and reviews with waaaaay less effort!!
Okay, so I’m a bit of a loves-to-write guide girlie. I love a well-designed PDF with lots of helpful information in it, but you know what? At some point, people either set it aside to read it later (and then never do), or it just becomes too much information, and your clients start to skim-read!
This is why I have been encouraging my clients (and now you) to experiment with videos in your process. I even had a client who we turned her print and album guide into a casual style video (like you would watch on Tik-Tok or Insta), showing her clients how to use prints in your homes and doing a little flip through her fave albums.
It just helps things feel less “salesy” and more like you are having a coffee chat with a bestie!
But Loom is also great for recording proper video tutorials, such as showing your clients how to use Pixieset or Pic-Time and all their gallery’s cool features.
You could record a Loom video showing clients how to design an album from start to finish (extra bonus if you make it feel really fun and helpful and actually inspire your clients to take action and order their album now! Like right now!), meaning you can get passive album sales without even having to place the order or DESIGN IT.
Have fun with your Loom videos, and let your personality shine!
Selling your photography service with personal touches
Selling is all about storytelling, and Loom videos will help you tell your story in a more engaging way!
This brings me to one of my fave ways to use it: when you get an inquiry and want to send out some gorgeous galleries to show your clients what they can expect (and, um, possibly avoid a potential Sepia Bride drama from happening, YIKES!).
Instead of just sending a link to the gallery and letting your client scroll through – what if you did a little gallery walkthrough instead? This is an opportunity to do some storytelling (and selling)!! You could tell them what was happening behind the scenes of that photograph, share how you helped your client feel more at ease, and describe your process or highlight what you love about specific images.
These stories will show the care, effort, and expertise you bring to your work, showing your clients that working with you is worth the investment. It will also help to make your brand feel more human, showing that you aren’t just another photographer but a storyteller who genuinely cares about your client’s experience.
And again, you only have to create these videos once!
Creating a thoughtful client experience for your photography business using Loom
You know that adding a personal touch is the best way to create a thoughtful client experience. This will help you build long-lasting relationships with your clients and a strong brand that will help you become known for your signature service!
Loom videos can be a key part of that experience, helping you provide your clients with a high-touch, personalised service WITHOUT THE BURNOUT.
You can choose the stages of the client journey that will have the most impact and where creating a Loom video can save you time from repeating the same information over and over again!
If you don’t know where to start, add a Loom video to your welcome ritual/workflow (aka your client onboarding) and your goodbye ritual/workflow (aka your client offboarding)!
Walking clients through your process and what they can expect when working with you will help them feel more confident about the journey ahead. The same goes for after you have sent over the final gallery or your goodbye guide – let them know how to back up their images safely, take care of their investment, and get the most out of their time working with you. It’s a small gesture that takes little energy, but can leave a lasting impression!
Loom is so much more than just a screen recording tool.
It’s a way to conserve your energy while making things feel even more personal and thoughtful for your clients.
I hope that this post has inspired you to think creatively about how you can share information and communicate with your clients, making your process feel more collaborative and intentional.
Like with any tool, it’s less about the tool or app you use and more about the way you use it. So, if you are searching for ways to find freedom away from your phone and create enough space to do the things that matter most to you, I can be your guide to creating a seasonal, cosy, and simple business!
